Little Luca

Little Luca

January 12, 2007

Little Luca, our precious little kitten with the heart and spirit of a lion fought a good fight but in the end was just too weak to survive. We appreciate all the calls and email wishing him well, and the donations that will help pay his vet bills. Losing one of our animals hurts but we are comforted to know that the last thing that he felt was love and kindness...he will be missed.

January 1, 2007

Little Luca arrived at Eglin Pet Welfare along with his mom and 4 other siblings. The cats were suffering from ringworm and were in fair condition except Luca, he was very skinny and frail. He was immediately taken to the veterinarian where his condition was worsening quickly. He was evaluated and was placed on IV fluids and antibiotics to help him fight whatever infection that is affecting him.

It was determined that Luca was very anemic and needed some blood, he was very lucky that the shelter’s long time resident Leo was at the vet for some treatment. So Leo the hero provided some blood for Luca.

During a visit from a volunteer he put weight on his legs and sat up for a little bit with head usually held down but would lift his head up now and again. He kept getting up the best he could to stagger or wobble as close as he could get to you and kept lifting his head up to look at you until he had to drop it down again because he had no strength. I didn't want him to wear himself out so when he lifted his head up at my face again I supported it with my hand and moved my face closer to his. He started purring louder and licked my nose and forehead and made biscuits!

Luca's veterinary bills are of course mounting quickly. If you would like to donate to help us provide for Luca's care please pledge your support with a donation to the shelter.
